Recovering Academics
What is a “recovering academic,” you might ask? Recovering in the gerund implies an ongoing, always-present process; we have left higher ed (or are thinking of doing so), but we might never really get away. Fill in whatever cliché you prefer. “Once an academic, always an academic.” Or maybe, “you can take the academic out of academia, but you can’t take the academia out of the academic.”
However you phrase it, there are serious emotional and psychological implications both to sticking it out in academia and getting out, at any stage. At Recovering Academics, we are a haven, a community of ex-academics (and would-be’s). You will find both serious stories and entertaining tales about getting out.
Still trying to figure out your options? We will also post career-oriented resources from folks who have successfully left.
